Users of social media platform X are getting hit with a flood of password reset emails they never requested—from X’s own systems. It’s similar to a scare that swept Instagram in January, after a dataset was leaked on a dark web forum, though X has yet to disclose any recent data breach.

The concern for Crypto Twitter users is the risk of prominent accounts being hijacked by phishers, as happened last year to the official BNB Chain account. Earlier this year, X introduced auto-locking and verification measures if an account posts about cryptocurrency for the first time—though that’s scant comfort if an account’s already posting about crypto.
