Would President Trump be willing to divest from his personal crypto projects to help push forward crypto legislation and satisfy critics—including lawmakers on both sides of the aisle—who say such entanglements are getting in the way?

Decrypt’s Sander Lutz put the question to the president himself on Friday during a White House briefing. While Trump didn’t give a firm answer, he did say that his crypto industry involvement predates his decision to run for president again this time around, and credited himself for rising momentum around the digital assets industry.

ā€œI don’t care about… I have my kids, and they invest in different things. They do believe in it,ā€ Trump said as part of his response. ā€œBut I’m president, and what I did do there is build an industry that’s very important. And you know, if we didn’t have it, China would.ā€
