Will Strategy sell Bitcoin? šŸ¤”

Strategy's stock fell Monday after the firm established a $1.44 billion USD reserve to pay dividends—and said selling Bitcoin isn't out of the question.

šŸ“ What you need to know

ā€œNever sell your Bitcoin,ā€ Strategy co-founder and famously bullish Bitcoiner Michael Saylor once tweeted. But now the firm behind the world’s biggest corporate Bitcoin treasury is admitting that it might be forced to sell from its nearly $56 billion stash.

Strategy took a first step towards avoiding that fate on Monday, when it announced the creation of a $1.44 billion USD reserve to cover a year’s worth of dividend payments. But Saylor echoed CEO Phong Le’s recent comments that if the company’s market cap falls below the value of its BTC stockpile, then it may need to sell some holdings.

ā€œThere are skeptics and cynics that have been of the opinion that we couldn't, or wouldn't, or don't have the will to sell Bitcoin in order to finance the dividends, and that sometimes becomes a negative short narrative,ā€ Saylor said. ā€œI think it's important for us to dispel this notion.ā€
