Stablecoin issuer Tether will finally deliver on its long-awaited independent audit of its reserves, announcing that it’s engaged one of the “Big Four” accounting firms to conduct the review. It hasn’t yet disclosed which of Deloitte, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, and KPMG will carry out the audit, which would serve as validation for a firm that’s long been dogged by questions about its reserves.

The audit could also help position Tether for compliance with incoming U.S. stablecoin regulations under the GENIUS Act, which requires all foreign stablecoin issuers (Tether is based in El Salvador)—to undergo rigorous audits of their reserves.

Tether last year launched its own U.S.-specific stablecoin, USAT, under an American offshoot, with its reserves audited by Deloitte.
