South Park is nothing if not a cultural barometer, skewering everything from the Trump administration to Disney’s output. In last night’s episode, it was the turn of prediction markets, with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone turning their satirical focus on Polymarket and Kalshi—to the delight of traders.

Interestingly, users of prediction markets (including Myriad, launched by Decrypt’s parent company DASTAN) failed to predict that Polymarket and Kalshi would be named in the episode itself.

DASTAN CEO Loxley Fernandes pointed out that it is “fundamentally incorrect” to consider prediction markets as “the new source of truth,” instead arguing that they’re a “financialized form of consumer sentiment aggregation.”

In this case, he suggested, users likely assumed that South Park would employ comical derivative names, instead of just naming the platforms—forgetting that the show has shown no qualms about singling out much bigger fish than prediction markets.
