Another year is in the books, and now it’s time to look ahead at what’s next for the booming crypto industry.
We’ll start with the obvious: Will Donald Trump do what he’s promised and make the United States the “crypto capital of the world”? And if so, what will that mean for the market?
While an extended bull run is far from guaranteed, Trump has already made several moves that bode well for the industry, including laying the groundwork for an inaugural presidential crypto council. The Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets will be chaired by Bo Hines, a former Republican nominee for the House of Representatives, who will work alongside Trump’s pick for “crypto czar,” VC heavyweight David Sacks.
What it will all amount to is yet uncertain, but one thing is for sure: It’s a markedly different approach from the previous administration, which supported an aggressive SEC that took every opportunity to put crypto companies on notice.
“The end of the hostility is going to in and of itself be a boon,” Kristin Smith, the CEO of the Blockchain Association, a prominent crypto lobbying group, told Decrypt.
