Despite historical fears, Bitcoin and other major assets were broadly green for the first half of the month, but prices have been diving in recent days—and the liquidations really piled up overnight.

More than $1.7 billion worth of crypto positions have been liquidated over the past 24 hours, per CoinGlass, with long positions making up $1.6 billion worth of the wreckage. Ethereum leads the bloodshed with $516 million worth of liquidations, with Bitcoin next behind at $293 million worth.

Ethereum is one of the day’s biggest losers, shedding 7% of its value over the last 24 hours, with Solana matching that dip and Dogecoin down even worse. Bitcoin is down about 2.4% during that span. Dan Dadybayo, research and strategy lead at Unstoppable Wallet, told Decrypt that the liquidations are largely due to “overexposed bulls getting caught.”

“Once ETH and DOGE rolled over, cascading margin calls forced positions to close, with more than $1 billion liquidated in just one hour at the peak,” he explained.
