Finally, some good news in a bad situation that only appeared to be getting worse: The Nigerian government said Wednesday that it has dropped money laundering charges against Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, and would release the U.S. citizen.

Gambaryan was detained in February alongside a fellow executive, who managed to escape, and has faced worsening health crises over the past several months. In recent weeks, the chorus of prominent voices calling for his release has grown, including not only Binance leadership but also members of Congress and beyond.

Nigeria will still pursue money laundering and tax evasion charges against Binance, a lawyer for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said, but Gambaryan was freed due in part to his medical concerns along with unspecified diplomatic efforts.
