North Korean hackers are responsible for a whopping 61% of crypto stolen this year, according to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis—with their total haul amounting to $1.34 billion, over double the figure from 2023.

That’s partly down to financial collaboration between North Korea and Russia, cybersecurity experts told Decrypt, who pointed to an escalation of cyber warfare efforts as individual countries form alliances rather than engaging in solo enterprises.

And the year isn’t over yet—just today, reports that North Korean hackers were sniffing around crypto project Hyperliquid caused the price of its token to plunge by double digits.
