📝 What you need to know
Bitcoin is celebrating its sweet 16th birthday.
Friday marks 16 years since the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto mined the original genesis block on the Bitcoin blockchain on January 3, 2009.
In the time since, Bitcoin has dramatically evolved and expanded, becoming one of the most valuable assets in the world amid its embrace by Wall Street. Bitcoin’s mining difficulty rose to an all-time high peak earlier this week, ensuring that the nearly $2 trillion network is well secured.
As the weekend nears, Bitcoin may be making a play to reclaim the $100,000 price point first secured last month. BTC nearly touched $99,000 this afternoon after falling below the $92K mark earlier this week. Bitcoin’s all-time high sits just above $108,000, set in December just before a broader market cooldown.
