Gotta tokenize 'em all ⚡

Tokenized Pokémon cards are having a moment—but card collectors are "apprehensive" about going on-chain. Can they be won over?

📝 What you need to know

Tokenized Pokémon cards are hitting the headlines, with marketplaces like Courtyard and Collector Crypt doing a roaring trade. But card collectors are a skeptical group, and efforts to onboard them to the world of crypto are facing headwinds.

The on-chain financialization of cards “doesn’t really get the neuron spiking for them,” pseudonymous developer Keef, who’s creating a platform that will let collectors use digital representations of Pokémon cards as collateral for loans, told Decrypt.

Other challenges loom, including fragmented markets, real-world data sources, and custodial arrangements—but a few pioneers are pressing ahead with efforts to, ahem, evolve Pokémon cards and bring them kicking and screaming into the DeFi space.
