Circle stock popped on the news of the regulatory milestone, with the company reiterating plans to offer its digital asset custody service to institutional customers and noting that management of its USDC reserve would now fall under federal regulatory oversight.

The news continues a run of sign-offs from the regulator, with Sony Bank having received conditional OCC approval to establish a national trust bank earlier in the week, on the heels of Ripple, BitGo, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Paxos.

Not everyone is thrilled by the series of approvals, with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) among the lawmakers who’ve argued that the charters were improperly granted.
