U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler said that S-1 registration forms for several spot Ethereum ETF applicants will likely be approved “this summer” during a Senate hearing.

The status update follows the approval by the SEC of multiple 19b-4 forms from prospective Ethereum ETF issuers last month, in an abrupt about-face for the regulator.

During the hearing, Gensler again refused to comment on whether the SEC considers Ethereum a security or a commodity, when directly asked.
