We knew things were about to get a little nutty in the crypto world with Donald Trump’s inauguration on the other side of the weekend, but nothing could’ve prepared us for Friday night’s surprise.
Donald Trump launched his own meme coin. No, really!
There was plenty of reason to be skeptical at first, especially given last year’s surge in celebrity social media hacks for pump-and-dump schemes, not to mention some initial apparent red flags. But as time passed and Trump’s social posts remained online, it became clear that the Solana token TRUMP is really tied to the President-elect.
Even wilder has been the token’s performance so far, blasting to a current market cap of about $4.5 billion at a price of over $23. That makes it a top 40 coin on day one, with trading volume nearly doubling that of Dogecoin over the last day. And Solana itself is reaping the benefits, too, with a sizable price spike Saturday.
