Bitcoin started the day priced just above $80,000—a record set on Sunday.
By late afternoon, BTC had spiked above $88,000 in one of the wildest days we’ve ever seen from crypto markets. Nearly everything is up right now, whether it’s Dogecoin more than doubling in price over the last week, Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs collectively adding billions, and MicroStrategy’s stock setting a new all-time high.
The catalyst, of course, was last week’s election win by Donald Trump, a candidate who made crypto a key part of his campaign and made various promises that investors appear optimistic that he’ll deliver on. Bitcoin’s peak price had been under $74K going into last Tuesday; now it’s up nearly 30% over the last week.
