Bitcoin bounced back above $80,000, but a Democratic Congress makes crypto’s push for new rules in Washington much harder.

📝 What you need to know

Bitcoin is back above $80,000 after Democrats swept both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterms, bouncing off a six-week low as Ethereum jumped and U.S. stocks rallied alongside.

It’s not a resounding vote of confidence, though. Analysts told Decrypt the sweep was largely priced in, with the rebound reflecting how much bad news traders were already braced for.

A tougher test for the crypto industry lies ahead. It spent more than $300 million backing friendly candidates across two election cycles, yet the Clarity Act, already stalled after a failed Senate vote in September, now faces a Democratic Congress wary of Trump’s crypto ventures. The election shook up tech, too, with software giants Microsoft and Alphabet surging while Nvidia and Tesla slid.

Why it matters
Bitcoin bounced back above $80,000 after Democrats swept both chambers of Congress, though analysts said the result was largely priced in and stocks rallied too. Traders now give BTC 57% odds of touching $85,000 this month and 25% on $90,000. A $100,000 peak sits at 3%. Crypto's legislative push looks harder: the Clarity Act, already stalled in the Senate, has just 3% odds of becoming law this year.
