A ZK quantum solution for Bitcoin ๐
Researchers have proposed ZKPoSP, a new post-quantum signature scheme that could protect Bitcoin against Q-Day while retaining existing wallet addresses.
๐ What you need to know
With concerns about quantum hardware advances ramping up, the race to protect Bitcoin from โQ-Dayโ is gathering pace. Security firm AmericanFortress is the latest to weigh in, with a proposal to swap Bitcoin's elliptic curve signatures for zero-knowledge proofs, letting holders prove they control a wallet's seed phrase rather than an individual key.
The appeal is that existing addresses survive, so nobody has to move funds before Q-Day. Prototype benchmarks put proof generation at 12 to 13 seconds and verification at 9 to 10 milliseconds. There are snags, though: no network has yet adopted it, and deployment would need wallets, exchanges and miners to agree. And that, as the ongoing spat over BIP-110 shows, is a tall order.
